Mrs. Velma Shaw is the Healthy Baby Ambassador Coordinator. She has a 3-year tie with the Right! From the Start project. Over that time she has assisted with gathering community groups to discuss topics associated with prematurity, maternal and child health issues affecting the communities in the Delta. She has also helped in gathering groups of high-risk pregnant women and new mothers for breastfeeding focus groups.
She currently is the Community Support Specialist with Life Help in Belzoni, MS, has a Bachelor Degree in Social Work, and has completed course studies for a Masters Degree in Counseling.
Velma and her husband, Alfred, are the proud parents of two sons, Brandon and Caleb. She is a member of the Word of Faith Fellowship, Belzoni, MS under the leadership of Dr. Stanford Johnson. She states: “I consider it an honor and a privilege to have been chosen to serve as a Healthy Baby Ambassador. I am extremely glad to be an advocate for those who can’t speak for themselves.”

Mrs. Gloria Shields serves as a Program Associate with the Children’s Defense Fund where she supports all programs and advocacy initiatives that address the needs of communities, both local and regional. She currently serves as a Mentor for the Ascend Two Generation participants in Indianola, MS. She is a 2012-2013 Graduate of Delta Regional Authority Delta Leadership Institute Executive Academy.
Gloria is married to Jessie Shields and they are the proud parents five children and seven grandchildren. She is a member of Daybreak Chapel Church of Belzoni, MS where she serves as President of the Usher Ministry and as Youth Ministry Director, under the leadership of Pastor Arthur Goss.
Gloria’s favorite scripture is “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” Philippians 4:13 (KJV) and quote “I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.” – Helen Keller

Mrs. Cassandra Brown is a Certified Professional School Counselor with the Humphreys County School District in Belzoni, Mississippi.  She is also a Licensed Social Worker for the State of Mississippi. She has served as the school representative for World Vision Organization/Children’s Defense Fund and the Delta Youth Leadership Program. She has volunteered with the Department of Human Services/Family and Children Services and previously worked as a Case Manager for Children with Region VI Life Help in Belzoni, Mississippi.
Her passion in life is to serve mankind by helping to eradicate problems within the community.  
Cassandra and her husband Charles are the proud parents of three children, two of whom were breastfed. She is a member of Word of Faith Fellowship Church under the leadership of Dr. Stanford Johnson of Belzoni, Mississippi.

Ms. Cynthia Woodall serves as the Right! From the Start Project Coordinator. She has a 23 year tenure with Strategic Systems, Inc., a Jackson-based marketing firm, and has done extensive work in the Mississippi delta region on various projects for many years. She also serves in other capacities such as graphic designer, printer, photographer, and organizer.
Cynthia has been a member of Word of Life Church in Flowood, MS since 1998 under the current leadership of Pastors Joel and Peppi Sims. She has served in many areas of the church such as the Prison Outreach Ministry, Media Department, Helping Hands Ministry, Community Outreach Activity Volunteer, just to name a few.
Cynthia is the mother of one son, god-mother of two, grandmother of eight, and great-grandmother of one. Her belief is that “Service Above Self” needs to be displayed and expressed daily in order to effectively carry out what God has placed us here to accomplish for His kingdom.
